Classes

Balzac & Co offers a variety of classes to suit everyone's needs, from beginning knitting and crochet to advanced techniques. Most classes are based around producing a finished product at the end of the sessions. All of these classes are available for both groups and individuals.

Beginning classes are for those who've never touched hooks, needles or yarn before, or perhaps your gran taught you and it didn't stick. That's okay because we'll sit with you as you work through the project to come away with something you'll be happy to wear or share. The only pre-requisite is a willingness to learn.

Our beginning knitting (101) is all about learning how to work the 2 needles and yarn. The techniques learned will be casting on (getting the yarn on the needles), the knit stitch, and binding off, with lots of practice working on tension (how tight or loose the stitches are on the needles).

Beginning crochet (101) is about becoming familiar and comfortable with holding your hook and yarn. There are no pre-requisites, and you'll learn how to make a chain and a single crochet, again with lots of practice with tension.

Most project based classes are 3 sessions, meeting once a week for an hour. Everyone is encouraged to visit the shop between classes to practice and get assistance as needed. Please call us with any questions, 732-898-6898.
